Chattp

Page history last edited by Keith Schoch 11 years, 1 month ago

Resource Name: Chattp

URL: http://chattp.com/

Uses: Collect Feedback, Interact Socially, Respond and Reflect

Description:

From the site:

Drop in a url and Chattp will chattify your page by augmenting your browser window with a realtime chat panel on the left hand side. Anyone you share your Chattp link for a specific page or website with will be able to participate in that chat. Each link is unique, so multiple chats can take place on any particular url.

That last sentence is important as teachers can limit the number of students interacting with a site and each other, while still allowing all students to synchronously visit a site.

Applications for the Reading/Language Arts Classroom:

  • Have students take notes on articles and entries for later use with reports. Side channel notes can be copied and pasted in Word, Google Docs, or another word processing program.
  • As the class reads an article together, students can interact with the text by asking questions and relating their own experiences.
  • Use for discussion about videos and current events.

Notes and Caveats:

  • As students surf, the URL in the address bar stays the same (the unique assigned code) so students will not be able to see or copy web addresses.
  • Student groups visiting the same site will not be able to communicate with each other, since their side bar chats will exist on different channels.
