Essay Tagger

Page history last edited by Keith Schoch 11 years, 1 month ago

Resource Name: Essay Tagger

URL: http://www.essaytagger.com

Uses: Quiz and Assess

Description: Essay Tagger allows the teacher to comment upon and score writing samples for thesis, topic sentence, paragraph focus, article quote, and class discussion quote. You can either use the provided scaled comments, or create your own, which are then available for tagging future essays.

Additionally, words and passages in the essay can be highlighted and commented upon individually, providing in-text correction and guidance.

The following video provides an excellent use of the features (see additional features and how-tos in related videos). It's now in a pay version ($20 per teacher, per month, for unlimited essays).

Applications for the Reading/Language Arts Classroom:

  • Easily and consistently check and correct student work, providing in-depth feedback which students can use for strengthening their pieces.
  • Provide parents with clear indications of student progress in writing.
  • Illustrate the difference between quoting and paraphrasing cited works.
  • Instantly see class-wide strengths and weaknesses.

Notes and Caveats:

  • Again, Essay Tagger is $20 per teacher, per month, for unlimited essays; group/department pricing may be less. If it seems a bit steep for teachers, consider it on a student-by-student cost basis. Schools and/or PTOs may be able to cover this expense.
